The Wedding Song

It's no surprise that yesterday I was singing and dancing around in the bathroom while I was getting ready for work.  I uploaded my absolutely favorite songs to my iphone and I put it on shuffle.  After I finished professing that I would do anything for love but I won't do that with Meatloaf and after I reinacted my very best version of Debbie Gibson's Lost in Your Eyes....My favorite song came on....my wedding song.

I remember how I always planned that when I got married my wedding song would be The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra.  I pictured it the whole time my husband and I were dating.  Then came the ring...and the change of mind.  Upon really listening to it, we would need to take dance lessons to dance to it.  As adorable as I thought would husband would be foxtrotting or waltzing to our first dance...I knew it wasn't logical.

So we discussed....and discussed...and discussed.  Went back and forth....we could not agree.

I remember sitting in my future father in laws living room with my husband next to me, with both our eyes and ears fixated on the laptop.  We sampled song after song.  My husband said "what about this one? This is perfect"!  Me, I was skeptical.  All I kept picturing was the cheesy version from UB40.  This version was different...Andrea Bocelli.  The man does have a beautiful voice and it is a beautiful song ...just when I wasn't completely sure my darling husband mouthed the lyrics "some things are meant to be.  Take my hand.  Take my whole life too.  For I can't help falling in love with you"

There it was...I have never listened to the song the same since!

God I love that man!

So tell me ...what special song did you choose as your first dance?

Ohhh, that was almost our song!! I love love LOVE Andrea Bocelli...my family is Italian, so I grew up with Pavarotti and the like, but AB was the first time I ever sought out Italian music. We didn't have a wedding dance (Marmot's family is Baptist) but if we had, it probably would have been Sinatra...but I had this as the background music on our wedding website! lol

So sweet! I love this post. What a great idea. And I love the song you chose. We danced to "In the Moment" by Sister Hazel, one of our favorite bands.

I have always wanted my wedding song to be "In your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel. That is until one day Kenny and I were driving in the car and a song came on. We both just turned and looked at each other and said this is IT! We danced our first dance to "When I'm With You" by Sheriff :)

we went around and around on the song for our first dance as well. See, it was literally our FIRST DANCE .... like ever. In the whole time we had dated and been engaged DH had never danced with me! Can you believe it?? So we didn't really have a "song" at all. After countless possibilities we finally picked "When You Say Nothing At All" by Alison Krauss. The song still brings tears to my eyes.

Ours was "Someone Like You" by Van Morrison. I've always liked the song, but the words were a good fit for us.

I love "The Way You Look Tonight" and we used that for our last song. :)

Oh, and the random song the DJ played that now always makes me think of my wedding day and smile: "More Today Than Yesterday"

I'm new to your blog. We had also thought about dancing to "The Way You Look Tonight", but sadly, I can't dance and even dance classes didn't help so we changed to "Your Song" by Elton John.

For the longest time I wanted "At Last" by Etta James but in the end we danced our first dance to "Thank You" by Led Zeppelin. In fact our entire ceremony music was Led Zeppelin done by a string quartet.!

We danced to "Lost in the Moment" by Big & Rich. In fact, we got the cd only a few months before the wedding and that was the first song on the cd. For us, that was what we had been looking for as our first dance song.

Ours was " I could not ask for more" by edwin Mccain. We actually took dance lessons! It was so fun taking the lessons, I wish we could still go but it's pretty expensive.
